STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION SPECIALIST COURSE

Course Info

The STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION SPECIALIST COURSE is an international course conducted in collaboration with GLOBAL SI, USA by Pearl International Institute of medical sciences. The GLOBAL SI was founded by DEREK GILL, Certified Advanced Rolfer™ and Rolf Movement® Practitioner. Global SI’s mission is to significantly grow the number of Structural Integration (SI) practitioners worldwide, and to bring the work pioneered by Dr. Ida P. Rolf to geographic locations that are, as of yet, unreached. Structural Integration (SI) has repeatedly shown itself to be transformative, both in the lives of those who receive it and in those who are competently trained to share it with others. Global SI has pioneered a perspective of SI that is unique in the field, and we are on a mission to spread these drugless, hands on therapy to every corner of the globe, helping people to understand the complex relationship between body and mind, and improve the innate capability of the body to transform, Re-Allign and heal itself.

ABOUT STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

Structural Integration (SI) is a process-based approach to somatic education, typically involving manual therapy that explores the possibility of change in how you use and experience your body. Through education, awareness, and therapeutic touch, you can release painful, stressful patterns of tension.

Through soft tissue manipulation and movement education, STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION affects body posture and structure over the long-term. It aims at improving body alignment and functioning, thus minimizing stress and maximizing efficiency.

SI purports to improve biomechanical functioning as a whole by progressively approximating specific ideals of posture and movement, rather than to treat particular symptoms.

Hypothesized mechanisms at the level of local tissue change include increases in soft-tissue pliability, release of adhesions between adjacent soft-tissue structures, and increased interstitial fluid flow with consequently improved clearance of nociceptive potentiators.

Hypothesized mechanisms for more global changes include improved biomechanical organization leading to reductions in mechanical stress and nociceptive irritation, a perception of improved biomechanical efficiency and coordination that generalizes to the self, and improvements in sensory processing and vagal tone.

Emotional catharsis is also thought to contribute to psychologic changes. Limited preliminary evidence exists for improvements in neuromotor coordination, sensory processing, self-concept and vagal tone, and for reductions in state anxiety. Preliminary, small sample clinical studies with cerebral palsy, chronic musculoskeletal pain, impaired balance, and chronic fatigue syndrome have reported improvements in gait, pain and range-of-motion, impaired balance, functional status, and well-being.

Chronic rigidities of the myofascia as capable of storing negative emotional memories, and that these could be released following the increase in soft-tissue pliability produced by SI manipulation, much in the manner theorized by Wilhelm Reich.

Course Duration

The GLOBAL SI, USA in collaboration with PIIMS is conducting a comprehensive program in STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION. The STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION SPECIALIST COURSE is an intensive program that can be completed in two years in India.

This program is designed specifically for existing healthcare practitioners. The program is built around ten three-day Module given five times in around, 2 years.

Our program combines hands-on training, active clinical training and home study Materials to give the practitioner a full comprehensive Structural Integration Training.

To obtain full certification as a STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION PRACTITIONER you will need to successfully complete all 10 modules and submit case studies for review and approval and pass final Examinations. In each LEVEL, 2 modules will be clubbed together and there are total 5 LEVELS.

Course Instructor

DEREK GILL, USA

Derek was a Top 10 graduate from Stanton College Preparatory School, which is consistently ranked as one of the most challenging high schools in the United States. Derek then went on to study at Florida State University on academic scholarship where he majored in Management Information Systems.

He is a Certified Advanced Rolfer™ and Rolf Movement® Practitioner, he also has significant hours of study with Professor Ron Murray, DO of the Canadian College of Osteopathy as well visceral training with Didier Prat, DO, a contemporary of Jean-Pierre Barral, DO.

Derek had the opportunity to take his basic Rolfing® training 3 times, first with Dr. Pedro Prado, credited for bringing SI to Brazil, and twice with Dr. Rolf’s hand picked original teacher, Jan Sultan, whom he also did his Advanced Rolfing® training with in a course assisted by Jon Martine.

Derek also did his Rolf Movement® training 3 times as well, studying with Kevin Frank, Monica Caspari, and Paula Mattoli.

Derek has been fortunate to study cranial work with several teachers, including the late Avi (Phil) Aberman. Derek was originally certified as a cranial-sacral therapist through the Colorado Cranial Institue, and studied directly with, Jim Asher, another of Dr. Rolf’s hand picked, original teachers prior to qualifying as a Cranial Osteopath. Jim Asher also invited Derek to perform the 10 series on him while Derek was still training at the Rolf Institute in exchange for his feedback, a rare opportunity for a student that proved even more valuable than the classroom instruction. During this same time Derek was able to attend the original dissection where Tom Myers embarked on proving his Anatomy Trains® theory in cadaver specimens.

Derek spent three years as an apprentice under David Krizmanik, DOM, LAc, Certified Advanced Rolfer™, Feldenkrais practitioner, and Polarity Instructor.

Derek also spent three years as an apprentice under Don Van Vleet. Now deceased, Don was an Advanced Rolfer™, Hakomi practitioner, and former Professional Ballet Dancer with the Joffrey Ballet. Along with being a master of functional movement, he was considered a visceral expert and was a former student of both Mantak Chia and Jean-Pierre Barral, DO.

Derek considers himself fortunate to have known and studied directly with movement pioneer Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement.

Derek had the opportunity to study with Robert Johnson, PT of the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute (NOI), and studied Biomechanics directly with Liz Gaggini.
